Fracturing Fluid

Fluid Testing:

PropTester®, Inc. fluid specialists are on location (onshore or offshore) prior to the stimulation treatment to perform water analysis, identify chemical additives, audit chemical & base fluid inventories, evaluate chemical compatibilities, determine polymer hydration rates, verify cross-link times, and calibrate chemical feed pumps. The job design, a pre-frac material balance, and treatment schedule are reviewed with service company personnel and the operator representative. Chemical inventories are documented during each stage and the final mass balance is calculated. Proppant transportation & delivery records are also recorded as part of the fluid service. All data is maintained centrally by PropTester®, Inc. for future comparison or application, as needed.

PropTester®, Inc. can determine the quality of your water and its scaling tendencies.
A water analysis can be partial or complete depending on requirements. When a complete water analysis is needed, then one is able to complete a Stiff plot which reflects a fingerprint of that particular water sample. The fingerprint is composed of complementary anions & cations, representing water composition. Test parameters may include as follows:

  • Specific gravity
  • pH
  • Alkalinity (bicarbonate, carbonate, & hydroxide)
  • Chloride
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Total hardness
  • Iron, total
  • Sulfide
  • Sulfate
  • Total dissolved solids
  • Sodium
  • Resistivity
  • Bacteria testing

Let PropTester®, Inc. be your eyes and ears during the stimulation treatment. We work closely with the service company to document issues critical to job execution such as:
  • Physical inventory (Final / Initial)
  • Bucket testing or checking accuracy of LAS pumps
  • Pre-frac water analysis
  • Hydration rate / viscosity yield with a rotational viscometer
  • Measurement of cross-link time where applicable
  • Confirmation of breaker types, loadings, & scheduling
  • Evaluation of clean & dirty samples during the frac job
  • Mass balance calculation
  • Correlation of actual execution with job design
  • HCl acid titration when applicable

Base Laboratory Fluid Testing:

PropTester®, Inc. experts have extensive, hands on, field experience to determine what fracturing fluid is best suited for your specific field application. Pre-job fluid rheology profiles and breaker schedules can be obtained with recommended formulations using a high pressure / high temperature rheometer. Customize your tests to suit your needs. Shear rates from 1 to 1000 sec-1, up to 500˚F and 2000 psi. All data is maintained centrally by PropTester®, Inc. for future comparison or application, as needed

Regained Fluid Testing:

Fracturing fluid can do 90% damage to a proppant pack as it is being placed in the formation. Maximize production by minimizing fluid damage. PropTester®, Inc. can maximize your breaker schedule and use the Chandler 5500 to make sure you still have the rheology to place the proppant.
